Amputee Rehabilitation
Individually customized inpatient and outpatient programs, are provided
to adults with upper and lower extremity amputations resulting from
diabetes, vascular injuries and disease, multiple trauma, work related
injuries and oncological reconstruction. The program provides comprehensive
assessment, treatment and education regarding diabetes management,
lifestyle adaptation and health promotion. Other program components
include complete wheelchair and assistive device consultations and
specialized prosthetic assessment and training with standard and myoelectric
prostheses.
Prior to discharge from the inpatient unit, the rehabilitation team,
patient and family will plan a weekend home visit to enable patients
and their families to identify issues prior to their discharge from
Hospital. The patient amputee rehabilitation teams, representing the full range of rehabilitation
professionals and medical specialists, work with patients and their
families to ensure a smooth transition to outpatient care and the community.
